The implementation of removals for the medical industry is one of the most demanding branches of specialized transportation. It requires not only a suitable fleet, but above all precise planning and experience in securing unusual dimensions.
Recently, our company Mr. Piano carried out an order on the route Wroclaw - Olawa, which perfectly illustrates what the behind-the-scenes transportation of medical equipment and professional training mannequins looks like.
The entire operation-from the loading to the final set-up of the equipment at the destination-closed in evenly 6 hours.
Who carries medical equipment and mannequins and why?
Who actually uses such specific equipment as the advanced training phantoms seen in the photos (both replicating adult and child figures). This type of cargo is most often carried for:
- Medical universities and specialized colleges - Modern universities that train doctors, nurses and paramedics have so-called Medical Simulation Centers. It is there that students practice life-saving procedures on phantoms that faithfully imitate the human body.
- Post-secondary schools and health and safety / first aid training centers - Institutions certifying future rescuers.
- Hospitals and health facilities - upgrading their training facilities or relocating entire divisions.
Whether it was an academic move or the relocation of a commercial training center, this equipment - despite appearances - is extremely expensive and susceptible to mechanical damage. For this reason, transporting it "in bulk" in a random car was not an option.
Fleet in action: What did we carry the cargo with?
For the execution of this order, we have contracted two large transport vans, which have been fully loaded. A key component of our fleet for this type of task is Peugeot Boxer (2018 model).
Why does this vehicle work best for medical removals?
- Cargo space capacity: The container, with a volume of nearly 20m3, allows for optimal placement of long and tall structures, such as hospital bed frames.
- Dimensions and packability: The interior allows for trouble-free transport of bulky items in an upright position or optimal stacking on secured platforms.
- Transportation Adaptation: The car is equipped with internal lashing strips, which are an absolute must for securely strapping down any heavy item with transport straps.
Workflow and logistical difficulties
Loading two such large vehicles with medical equipment is not an easy process The package included adjustable rehabilitation beds, specialized treatment tables and transport chairs.
During the 6-hour operation, we faced several key challenges:
1. irregular shapes and delicate mechanics
Medical beds and treatment tables have protrusions, hydraulic cylinders and locking casters. They are not molded packages that can be easily stacked on top of each other. Each piece of furniture had to be locked in place and the movable arms were properly shored up. In the photos from inside our Peugeot, you can see that we used the design of the beds to create secure "floors," separating the different layers with professional mats and conveyor belts.
2. transportation of training dummies
Medical phantoms have internal electronics (chest pressure sensors, heart rate mimicking systems, etc.). Transporting them required treating them like living patients - transporting them in safe positions (lying on treatment tables or sitting in wheelchairs), without risking pressure on sensitive structural points.
3. urban logistics: congested Wroclaw - Olawa
Leaving the crowded city of Wroclaw with two loaded buses, transporting them along the national road and efficiently entering the unloading zone in Olawa required precise timing. Maneuvering a large container on tight driveways to medical facilities is the daily bread for our drivers, but always requires maximum focus.
Summary of medical transport
In 6 hours we closed a process that could have taken two days for an inexperienced company. The equipment arrived in Olawa intact, ready for immediate assembly and reuse for training purposes.
