It was one of the most dramatic restaurant relocations Wrocław has ever seen. At Plac Wolności, a real battle unfolded against time, extreme exhaustion, and… an underhanded move by the landlord. Four people, a huge Wrocław restaurant at 100 people and a breakneck pace.
Sudden termination in downtown Wrocław and a trap for equipment
The owners of a well-known restaurant on Plac Wolności in Wrocław received only two-day notice of termination of the contract. The property owner was counting on the tenant to slip up and assumed from the outset that such a massive business couldn’t be wiped off the map of Wrocław in 48 hours.
I guess the plan was to put restaurant owners up against the wall, force them to surrender, and seize professional catering equipment worth hundreds of thousands of zlotys, which, due to time constraints, would have to be left behind at the restaurant.
However, the restaurant owners had no intention of giving up. A massive mobilization effort—the likes of which Wrocław hadn’t seen in a long time—got underway. We took on the challenge!
Restaurant Relocation – 15 Hours a Day
A restaurant that seats 100 people is more than just tables and chairs. It consists of massive, heavy kitchen equipment, cold storage units, and hundreds of kilograms of glassware, china, and supplies.
Working hours: Two days taken out of his life story, one of which was as long as 15 hours of continuous, grueling physical exertion.
Objective: Transport everything to a temporary storage facility consisting of special containers.
A Happy Ending in Spite of Malice – Mr. Piano Triumphs
Although the four-person team was working on the verge of total exhaustion, the goal was achieved. The restaurant equipment was saved, and the landlord’s likely plan fell apart. This move proved that Wrocław’s restaurant scene can survive even the greatest crises, and that determination and hard work can overcome any adversity.
The restaurant is disappearing from Plac Wolności for a while, but its spirit and—most importantly—all of its facilities are safe. This isn’t the end of its story on Wrocław’s culinary map; it’s merely the closing of one exceptionally difficult chapter.
The Wrocław team deserves a huge round of applause. You showed what it means to really fight until the very end!
