The order came to us through a network of friends - a classic case of someone recommending someone trusted. The client was moving from an apartment on the fourth floor in an older block of apartments. Seemingly nothing complicated: two buses , a few hours of work, and done.
Reality quickly verified these plans.
The first obstacle to a successful move - a broken elevator
Even before entering the stairwell, it turned out that the elevator was out of order. This was not information that the customer had given in advance - it had simply shut down during the night and in the morning gave no signs of life. For the moving team, this meant one thing: every box, every closet, every mattress had to go down the stairs. With four floors and no elevator, this gets to be serious physical work, especially when the furniture is large and heavy.
The maintenance gentleman was supposed to do the elevator repair very quickly
A technician appeared on the scene to repair the elevator. He assured that the matter was simple and would take up to four hours. It sounded promising. Unfortunately, the diagnosis turned out to be too optimistic. The master technician hung around the machine room, made phone calls, ordered parts - and so more hours passed. The move continued, the stairs creaked under the weight of the furniture, and the elevator continued to stall.
At one point, the technician frankly admitted: "I don't know if he will fix it'. It was a clear signal to the entire moving team to stop hoping for a miraculous solution.
In the end, the elevator came back to life only ten hours after the fault was reported. The entire move therefore had to be done exclusively by stairs.
What was the drift of the furniture like?
The fourth floor without an elevator in an old building is a real test of endurance. The stairwell was narrow, the lighting was poor, and some of the corners in the stairwells made bringing in large items akin to solving a spatial puzzle. Cabinets had to be disassembled at the top and reassembled at the bottom, and some equipment required several people to get it moving at all.

Work organization in the absence of an elevator
In such situations, good planning is key. The team worked in pairs on each heavier item, rest points were designated on each floor, and the order in which items were lifted was carefully planned - large furniture first, then boxes, and finally fragile items. This avoided unnecessary chaos on the cage and confusion during loading.
Two buses - two courses, one destination
The amount of belongings turned out to be so large that they could not fit in one vehicle. All the possessions required two full furniture buses. This meant coordinating two trips, making sure nothing was left behind or lost along the way, and unloading efficiently at the destination. Despite the difficulties, everything arrived on time and intact.
