Transport of Calisia piano in Wroclaw

Wroclaw's townhouses hide many secrets, on this day it was to be a beautiful grand piano. We faced a tough challenge - the transportation of a powerful Calisia brand piano.

Calisia piano - Pearl of Polish production

The instrument we faced was a classical piano of the brand Calisia. This is the pride of the Polish music industry from Kalisz, known for its solid construction and deep sound. However, what pleases the ear of the music lover is a huge challenge for the porter.

Weight and dimensions of the colossus - the piano

This particular model is a real giant in its class.

  • Weight: Estimated at about 600 kg. Such tremendous weight is due to the massive cast-iron frame, which has to hold the string tension, and the solid wooden case finished in high gloss.
  • Dimensions: The length of the instrument exceeded 2 meters, and the width was the standard for pianos of about 150 cm.

This is no ordinary piece of furniture that can simply be moved. It's a precision mechanism encased in a heavyweight's body.

Target transportation

We carried out the order in Wroclaw, in a beautiful old building. The instrument was located on the 1st floor. In theory - it sounds simple. In practice, old construction can surprise.

Staircase - a pleasant surprise

Contrary to fears, the staircase itself proved to be our ally. The wide stair treads and spacious landing allowed us to operate the instrument with relative ease using belts and muscle power. Despite its 600 kg weight, the experienced team is able to distribute the weight so as to safely negotiate the steps. However, the real "stairs" began only behind the apartment door.

Trap in the living room

The biggest challenge proved to be the location of the piano inside the premises. The instrument stood in a room that was far too small for it.

The piano literally took up half of the room.

The lack of maneuvering space is a logistical nightmare. To get the instrument out, we had to make a series of precise moves in a place where the transport team could barely fit, not to mention the 600-kilogram colossus. Every centimeter mattered - one false move could mean damage to a wall, a frame or, worse, the instrument itself.

Transportation technology: How to move 600 kg in a cramped room?

At such moments, years of practice and knowledge gained in cooperation with MKL Logistics and the technical heritage of Sztanlej pay off. Physical strength is not enough - you need physics and the right equipment.

Specialized cart for pianos and grand pianos

A key component of the operation was a professional transport cart (a so-called "doggie" with reinforced construction and rubberized wheels).

  1. Preparation: First we had to protect the instrument (lid, keyboard, sides) with blankets and stretch film to avoid the smallest scratches.
  2. Disassembly: In such a cramped room, it was necessary to unscrew the legs and lyre (the element with pedals), placing the instrument "on its side" on special skids (sleds).
  3. Transportation: Only the body prepared in this way, using a cart, could we precisely twist in the narrow corridor of the apartment and lead to the staircase.

With poise and technique, Calisia safely left the cramped walls of the townhouse to ring out in a new, more spacious venue.
